This program, designed to develop our future leaders, addresses the critical community need for competent representation by providing the opportunity for our youth to develop public speaking, communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the confidence and knowledge base to participate in discussions on issues facing Canadian.

To further our interest in encouraging unity and strength within different communities through educational programs, we are developing and hosting a speech competition for students from multi- faith Schools across Ontario. Our event was established in 2002 and has already seen five successful years.

This year over 100 multi faith schools have been invited to nominate a student as their representative.  Our event serves as a forum for students to present their unique views to a supportive and educated audience.

Our objective is to expand the program to all public and private schools in Ontario during our second phase, and eventually open the program to all schools in Canada. Our vision for the final phase is a fully developed forum where Canadian students from different communities will take part in a dialogue and debate on relevant current issues pertaining to their communities.

Outline of NAMF Speech Competition Procedure:

1) Ontario schools are informed of the topic of the current competition and are provided with evaluation guidelines and judging criteria.

2) Ontario schools are invited to nominate their representative (current rules limit to students from Grade 6 to Grade 8) after going through their internal process.

3) Participants are randomly assigned timeslots during the program to deliver 3-5 minute oral presentations.

4) Speeches are assessed by a panel of independent judges from journalism and academia according to pre-determined criteria.

5) Top-ranking speeches (first, second, third positions) are awarded prizes, and respective schools receive display trophies.

6) All representatives are awarded certificates of participation.
